What exactly can the G5 4 P HdO from the manufacturer Audio Service do? First of all, it is a hearing aid in the classic sense, sitting behind the ear. It meets moderate to stronger hearing needs. This model is a discreet hearing aid from the basic class. What can it accomplish in everyday hearing? What comfort features does it offer? We took a closer look at it.

Hearing comfort

The comfort features determine how pleasant listening experiences are perceived in everyday life. This hearing aid only offers the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. A classic noise suppression is supposed to reduce annoying background noises to a tolerable level. In the G5 4 P Behind-the-Ear model, this only works to a limited extent. More than a very basic noise suppression is not included here. Users of the G5 4 P Behind-the-Ear model, however, have to deal with the wind sweeping over the microphones. There is no wind noise reduction available here.

Points are deducted for the lack of impulse noise suppression. Normally, this would dampen short, rattling noises. But those who choose this hearing aid should not let that disturb them. We are quite far away from a 3D spatial sound here. Only the switchable forward focus offers a bit of hearing support in social settings. The number of equalizer bands is very important for adapting to hearing needs. The Behind-the-Ear model only provides 8 bands and does not allow for many fine-tuning options in the long run.

An exciting topic in hearing acoustics is the use of artificial intelligence, but this audio service model does not yet implement it.

Operation & connectivity

Most features of this audio service model are activated automatically. However, it can be very useful to expand the functionality a bit more. In our test, we found out what options we have here. There is a button directly on the hearing aid. With this, you can adjust the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed entirely to the customer's wishes. Using it is, of course, optional. If desired, there is a remote control for the hearing aid. This allows you to adjust the volume effortlessly. The handling is not only child’s play, but no one will notice that you are adjusting your hearing aids.

Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but unfortunately, this one from Audio Service cannot yet. It would be practical when fingers are not as mobile anymore, or if one simply likes smart gadgets. Tap Control would also have been an interesting feature. With that, you could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But this is not available in the G5 4 P HdO yet.

An app for individual control is available for free. However, here we only find normal functions that are useful, but the app is not really fun to use. The G5 4 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy binaural phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normally hearing individuals. We find that good and gladly award points.

Simplicity & security

The user-friendliness is the next aspect we want to address. It is about everyday usability and the question of how easy and safe it is to navigate life with the hearing aid. We would have wished for an automatic program that adjusts itself to the environment in the G5 4 P BTE. However, that is not available, so unfortunately, points have to be deducted here. We give a significant plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is achieved. This greatly facilitates getting used to the new sound.

The G5 4 P BTE relies on battery power instead of rechargeable batteries. Advantage: Very long runtime with one battery. Unlike rechargeable solutions, you rarely have to worry about the power supply. Disadvantage: Waste is generated in the form of used batteries. This hearing aid uses a hearing aid battery size 13.

The G5 4 is nearly dustproof and waterproof and, with its IP 68 classification, is certainly well protected against external influences.

Extras

Sometimes, hearing aids come with additional features that can be quite useful. Let's see how it is with this Audio Service device: Manufacturers often implement a tinnitus program in their hearing aids to somewhat alleviate the annoying ringing. However, Audio Service has opted out of this in this model. This is unfortunate, as it would have been a real added benefit for many people.

What about remote maintenance? Such online services save a trip to the specialist store, as you can directly contact the acoustic professional through the app. Unfortunately, we didn't find anything like that for the G5 4 P HdO. Too bad, that would have been a great additional tool.

Many hearing aids today still come with a few health functions. However, since the G5 4 P HdO does not have any special sensors for that, we cannot present any specific features here. It would have been nice to have a few lifestyle functions, but those are not available in the G5 4 P HdO. Other hearing aids can score with language translators or fall alarms, but here it remains within the usual scope of functions.
