Once again, we focus on a hearing aid from the company Bernafon. This time it is a behind-the-ear hearing aid, known from earlier times, named Entra A 2 BTE. It is a discreet hearing aid, and in terms of price, it is at the lowest price level. It can be used for moderate to severe hearing loss. Let's take a look at what the inner workings have to offer:
Hearing comfort
In the section on listening comfort, we look at how a hearing aid handles all the background noise. Comfortable noise management significantly contributes to a user liking and regularly wearing their hearing aids. In this Bernafon device, we find only the absolute essentials regarding listening comfort. The regular noise suppression aims to soften uniform, rustling background noises. The Entra A 2 BTE has standard noise suppression integrated by the manufacturer. It is active in the background but cannot be adjusted further.
According to the manufacturer, impulse sound suppression is integrated, but we could feel little of that. We found a basic wind detection system, but unfortunately, nothing is adjustable there. Unfortunately, nothing can be said here about spatial hearing; the microphones have no additional functions that could enhance directional hearing. An important point in our tests is the number of frequency bands. It plays a role in the precise programming of hearing aids. This number is also important when distinguishing between speech and noises. Here we have 10 bands. A few more could have been beneficial, as we cannot make very fine adjustments. However, those who do not place great value on a brilliant sound experience might get along quite well with the Entra A 2 BTE.
The signal processing is based, among other factors, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet in use here.

Operation & connectivity
Most hearing aids automatically adapt to their environment. However, it is sometimes very practical to make adjustments yourself. After all, the hearing aid does not know how you are feeling at the moment. We looked into the control options that the Entra A 2 BTE offers: One very quick way to adjust the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and you can increase or decrease the volume in several steps. Additional programs for specific hearing situations can also be activated with it. If you prefer not to use the button, it can simply be disabled. A remote control is available for the Entra A 2 BTE. It is quite practical, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume control option as well as various hearing programs.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Bernafon unfortunately cannot yet. It would be practical for those whose fingers are less mobile or for those who simply like smart gadgets. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, a tap control could be imaginable, which would mean triggering a specific function by tapping your fingers on your ear. However, this option is not available in the Entra A 2 BTE.
As is common today, we also find a smartphone app for the Entra A 2 BTE. This app contains solid basic functions and adds a few extra goodies. One of the best features of the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a TrueWireless headphone, allowing it to receive phone calls and other sounds directly in the ear. The requirement is a compatible smartphone that supports 2.4 GHz technology. The biggest advantage is that you can hear phone calls not just in one ear, but in both. Additionally, the sound can be tailored to personal needs.

Simplicity & security
Die Nutzerfreundlichkeit ist der nächste Aspekt, dem wir uns widmen wollen. Hier geht es um Alltagstauglichkeit und die Frage, wie einfach und sicher man mit dem Hörgerät durchs Leben kommt. Wir hätten uns im Entra A 2 BTE eine Programmautomatik gewünscht, die sich selber an die Umgebung anpasst. Die gibt es aber nicht, also leider Punktabzug an dieser Stelle. Über den integrierten Eingewöhnungsmanager freuen wir uns sehr. Er hebt im Hintergrund die Lautstärke des Hörgerätes in winzig kleinen Schritten an, bis unsere Zielverstärkung irgendwann erreicht ist. Wir können uns entspannt und ganz allmählich an die neuen Höreindrücke gewöhnen.
Leider ist Entra A 2 BTE nicht mit einem Akku ausgestattet, so dass man zum Betrieb regelmäßig Batterien der Größe 13 benötigt.
Wir werfen noch einen Blick auf die Robustheit des Gehäuses und entdecken im Datenblatt die Schutzklasse IP 68. Damit kann Staub gar nicht erst eindringen, und auch Wasser wird erst nach längerem Untertauchen gefährlich. Ein Schutz gegen Berührungen gehört auch mit dazu.

Manchmal gibt es in den Hörgeräten noch Zusatzfunktionen, die ganz nützlich sein können. Mal sehen, wie das bei diesem Bernafon-Gerät ist: Auf jeden Fall erwähnenswert ist das Tinnitusprogramm. Davon werden all jene profitieren, die von lästigen Ohrgeräuschen geplagt werden. Angenehme, leise Geräusche werden so eingestellt, dass sie den Tinnitus sanft umspielen. Am Ende versinkt der Tinnitus in der Geräuschkulisse und fällt gar nicht mehr störend auf.
Einen sehr guten Zusatznutzen erhält man durch das Angebot der Fernwartung. Über die App kann man mit seinem Hörakustiker Kontakt aufnehmen und sein Hörproblem schildern. Der kann die Einstellung entsprechend verändern und über die App in die Hörgeräte laden. Für Menschen mit wenig Zeit oder einem weiten Anfahrtsweg ist das ein toller Service.
Viele Hörgeräte haben heute noch ein paar Gesundheits-Funktionen dabei. Da das Entra A 2 BTE aber keine speziellen Sensoren dafür hat, können wir hier keine Besonderheiten vorstellen. Digitale Algorithmen und passende Apps erlauben immer öfter die Integration von Lifestyle-Funktionen, die Ihren Alltag unterstützen.
