The Oticon Jet 1 IIC in review
Obwohl diese Geräte neu auf dem Markt sind, arbeiten sie mit einer alten Technik. Wir haben sie daher bereits mit einem Abschlag in der Gesamtnote bewertet.
Could this hearing aid from the Oticon program be the right one for you? In our test report on the Jet 1 IIC, we highlighted the most important aspects. We have here a tiny, barely noticeable hearing aid from the lowest price range that is worn in the ear. The barely noticeable wearing position in the back of the ear canal lays the foundation for good hearing success, as the sound has only a very short distance to travel to the eardrum. This ensures that all tones reach us exactly where we want them.
The Jet 1 IIC provides sufficient amplification for mild, moderate, and severe hearing needs.
Hearing comfort
What is most annoying for hearing aid users: Exactly, background noise. That’s why we first look at what comfort features the test device contains. With the Jet 1 IIC, we found very few options for comfort adjustments. A normal noise suppression is definitely present. It is supposed to dampen constant sounds like street noise or the hum of the air conditioning. In our test device from Oticon, a simple noise reduction is integrated by the manufacturer, but it cannot be adjusted further.
At least, the Jet 1 IIC includes a so-called noise filter. But is that always sufficient? There is also wind management. We find that very good, as many people like to spend time outdoors. The reduction of wind noise occurs at a medium level. Let’s briefly look at the equalizer: With 10 bands, it is not particularly flexible. With a few more channels, we would have surely achieved a nicer, more natural sound experience. But at least we can reasonably adjust the sound to our hearing perception. Spatial hearing with the Jet 1 IIC occurs in a very natural way. Due to its special placement deep in the ear canal, the function of the outer ear is preserved, and there are no losses in directional hearing.
Strategies based on artificial intelligence are not yet implemented in this hearing aid from Oticon.
Rating Hearing comfort: 3,5
Operation & connectivity
The control options for hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as anyone would like them to be. The basic functions operate fully automatically, of course. We wanted to know how a user can access the Jet 1 IIC beyond that. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find any buttons, which is a shame. Let’s take a closer look. We would have liked to have a remote control, but Oticon does not offer one for this model. So no points for that.
During the test, we found no option for voice control. While this function is not absolutely necessary, we would have appreciated it nonetheless. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of the finger, without needing to press a button. However, this feature is not implemented here yet.
If you are looking for an app, unfortunately, you won't find one here. The Jet 1 IIC has to do without smart control functions. That point is lost. Wireless connectivity options are completely missing in this version. That’s a bit outdated, but it is probably due to the small size of the hearing aid.

Simplicity & security
Another point on our checklist is handling. Does everything work simply and reliably? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe use in everyday life? The first points in the chapter on simplicity are wasted by the Jet 1 IIC, as it lacks automatic situation adjustment. We have to manually adjust until we manage to cope with the respective hearing situation. Very important concerning simplicity is the support during the acclimatization phase. Especially after years of poor hearing, it can be difficult to perceive everything at a natural volume. Our test device features an acclimatization manager that helps us through the adjustment phase with very small volume changes. After a few weeks or months, we reach the calculated amplification level.
Many hearing aids today have a rechargeable battery, but the Jet 1 IIC continues to use disposable batteries. This is somewhat cumbersome in handling and also burdens the environment.
With an IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand a variety of adverse influences. Dust cannot penetrate, it withstands longer submersion in water, and it is also protected against contact.
Rating Simplicity & security: 3,0
Extras
At the end of our test report, there is still a little space for the extra features: Are you among those suffering from tinnitus? Then you could use the optional tinnitus program in the Jet 1 IIC. Soft, gentle sounds are tailored to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. It is nothing more than a distraction tactic, and it works remarkably well. The tinnitus fades into the general noise and does not bother you anymore. This is a simple but effective tool and earns extra points from us.
Online services are becoming increasingly commonplace. There is often a remote maintenance service available for hearing aids as well. However, Oticon has not yet planned such a service for its Jet 1 IIC. Therefore, you have to go to the specialist store every time you want to have your hearing aid reprogrammed. No extra point for that.
Many hearing aids today still come with a few health-related features. However, since the Jet 1 IIC doesn't have any special sensors for this, we cannot present any unique characteristics here. The hearing aid opts out of additional features such as special assistance systems, a fall alert, or language translators. This is not a major issue, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.
Rating Extras: 3,3
Conclusion: Oticon Jet 1 IIC
In the overall result, this test device ranks low and lacks some features. We award a grade of 4.16. For casual listeners, this is acceptable, but for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more comprehensive comfort features.
