What exactly can the Key 2 77-DW from the manufacturer ReSound do? First of all, it is a traditional hearing aid that sits behind the ear. It covers mild to moderate hearing losses. This model is a small-sized hearing aid from the basic class. What can it deliver in everyday hearing situations? What comfort features does it come with? We took a closer look at this.
Hearing comfort
The hearing comfort determines whether someone enjoys wearing their hearing aids or not. That's why we first looked at how the hearing aid handles background noise. In this model presented by ReSound, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. Of course, there is noise suppression integrated, which is supposed to mitigate exhausting background noises. In the Key 2 77-DW, it only works to a very limited extent. When taking a look at the price, that could indeed be fitting. While the Key 2 77-DW has wind reduction, it doesn't really help outdoors.
Even in cheaper hearing aids, we often find attenuation for impulsive, clattering sounds today. But unfortunately, this clever tool is not included here, which is very unfortunate. Unfortunately, nothing can be said about spatial hearing here; the microphones have no additional function that could enhance directional hearing. The equalizer in the Key 2 77-DW has only 6 bands. This means that when wanting to make changes, one can only access quite large frequency ranges. Thus, you always change a lot at once, and the small nuances cannot be implemented.

Operation & connectivity
Most functions of this ReSound model are activated automatically. However, it can be very useful to have the option to expand the functionality a bit more. In our test, we found out what options we have here. A very quick way to adjust the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and you can adjust the volume in multiple steps. Additional programs for specific hearing situations can also be activated this way. If someone prefers to do without the button, they can simply have it deactivated. We do like the small remote controls, and we found one for this model. This allows for discreet adjustments to the volume or sound.
We do not yet find the modern form of voice command control in the Key 2 77-DW. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple tap, as certain sensors would have been needed in the housing for that.
An app is the perfect companion for hearing aids. The app for the Key 2 77-DW is absolutely impressive. It is a sensible addition, as it can make life significantly easier in critical hearing situations with its various adjustment options. One of the best features in the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a TrueWireless headphone and receives phone calls and other sounds directly in the ear. The prerequisite is a suitable smartphone that includes 2.4 GHz technology. The greatest advantage is that you can hear phone calls not only in one ear but in both. Additionally, the sound can be tailored to personal needs.

Simplicity & security
An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its suitability for everyday use. This includes, for example, automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. We receive relatively little support from the program automation in the Key 2 77-DW. Without a few individual listening programs, one is likely to struggle in a lively everyday life. An automatic acclimatization manager is especially useful for those using a hearing aid for the first time. The volume is gradually adjusted to the target amplification over a longer period. However, during our test, we unfortunately did not discover a suitable tool, so: no points for that.
The Key 2 77-DW is not equipped with a rechargeable battery. It uses a hearing aid battery size 13, which needs to be replaced every few days.
We had a carefree everyday experience during our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands - no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only pertains to fresh, natural water and not to frothy bathwater or seawater.

Sometimes there are additional features in hearing aids that can be quite useful. Let's see how it is with this ReSound device: ReSound has integrated a sound generator that plays some soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.
A clever tool is the integrated remote maintenance service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a precious resource. Therefore, such a remote maintenance service is absolutely appropriate. If someone needs a new programming of their hearing aids, they can easily contact the audiologist via the app and describe their hearing preferences. Through a cloud service, the professional can then send an individual setting as a data package to the app. From there, it is loaded onto the hearing aid and can be tried out immediately. This definitely deserves extra points in our test.
Many hearing aids today still come with a few health features. However, since the Key 2 77-DW does not have any specific sensors for this, we cannot present any special features here. This ReSound hearing aid does not have any additional lifestyle options on board. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need that for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.
